I finally found a picture of La Manga del Mar Menor. Looks great except for the fishing net!!! See the 'spots' forum for more info. :-)

Hi Andrew, I have sailed this spot a few times, believe me that 1 set of fishing nets is on a good day normally there are fishing nets all along that stretch, prevailing winds here are east (Levante) and west (Poniente) they run with the road in both directions in other words side shore, its ok on a north easterly or strong south westerly, although the easterly is a lot weaker than in Tarifa, winter is the best time to get south westerly storms if you want to speedsail, best bet is tarifa, Los Lances is much more reliable with the strong easterly winds and no fishing nets. La Manga is a good kite surfing spot.

Hi Andrew and Kevin.
As you saw I "tested" the fishing nets last sunday. I forgot to say that a local told me that during the winter fishermen remove their nets, and this is the most windy time..., but I don´t believe because most of them are illegals. I´m sure that you´ll have to use the trick, spin the nets with its weights.

Anyway, I don´t understand one thing Kevin, if you want to sail with south-west (lebeche wind) you have to go into the saline (the left side of the photo, in Google Earth you can see a big close area), is this correct?, did you sail in the left side? and did you have the necesary depth?

Another question is the salinity of the water and its density and how affects the speed sailing. This summer we were in Sotavento and you achieved 30 knots "easily" with slalom material (the record was 35,7), but in La Manga it´s very difficult to pass the 32 knots and on sunday we had 30 knots gusts and we were on F2 Missile and F2 SX XS with RS6 5,8. It is strange, isn´t it?

Hola Joaquin como te va, the left side is very shallow with many sand pits near the road, When I sailed their it was on kitesurfing equipment, but it felt like a potential spot in the right conditions more so for kitespeed, as for the high salt content in the water, this aids flotation quite a bit, it would be interesting to see what the experts think on the effects it would have on fins, maybe the cavitation barrier is reached earlier because of the salt content, interesting topic, I didn't notice any positive or negative effect on the kite board.

Saludos.

Lo Pagan is good for speed on a good easterly in that area.

Hola Kevin, ¿qué tal? con ese nombre, muy español no serás, o me equivoco.

Thanks for your reply. I had my doubts about the left side and you have confirmed that it is not for windsurf. What a pity, for kiters is perfect!

Saludos.
